Lead Weight LP 1981
Label: Neat Records
Neat Records/Base Record
#: NEAT C/100
NEAT 1000
Country: England
Info: Originally only released on MC by Neat, though the Italian vinyl version is most likely the version you'll run across 9 times out of 10. If there's a connection bewteen this album and MCA Records' Brute Force compilation from one year earlier I haven't figured it out yet. In any case the design of the back sleeves is hauntingly similar. The main difference would be that Lead Weight wipes the floor with its 'predecessor', be it due to the scene having matured a bit or thanx to Neat's Magic Metal Wand. A Metal Milestone.

(bold = exclusive track / normal = non-exclusive track / italic = non-metal)

Side A:
1. RAVEN - Inquisitor
The Speed Metal Godfathers at their meanest, hardest and best!
2. WHITE SPIRIT - Cheetah
The Rainbow/Purple influence is far from subtle.
3. VENOM - Angel Dust
One of their cathiest 'party-tunes' imo. Different from LP version. Later featured as bonus on the 2002 CD reissue of "Welcome To Hell".
4. AXE - S.S. Giro
Pre-Fist. Some kind of 70's rock thing. Pass. Later featured on "Back with a Vengeance: The Anthology" 2CD from 2002.
5. BLITZKRIEG - Inferno
Easily as groundbreaking as Venom in their heydays. Later featured on their "A Time Of Changes - Phase I" anthology 2CD from 2003.
6. ARAGORN - Noonday
STORMING band w/ a sick, brrrrutal guitar tone! This track is a bit of a rocker but still heavy as evil hell. (Never mind the "House Of The Rising Sun"ish intro..)

Side B:
1. FIST -Throwing In The Towel
Sounds like 90's Maiden at their most 'commercial', which doesn't make sense at all. Later featured on "Back with a Vengeance: The Anthology" 2CD from 2002.
2. AXIS - Messiah
Melodic & supercatchy rockMetal masterpiecel w/ keys and kewl vocals.
3. BITCHES SIN - Down The Road
One of those lead riffs that cuts right through your heart. Fast NWOBHM with magical powers.
4. WARRIOR - Flying High
Jerky yet simple leads and mildly constipated vocals. Average.
5. SATAN'S EMPIRE - Soldiers Of War
Superb Maiden-like intro/outro, sort of WF General-like riffing and vocals sounding like a young Paul Chain. Not Doom though, but still great and epic stuff.
